Get Your Unclaimed Cash from the Illinois Treasurer’s I-Cash Program!
Have you heard of the Illinois Treasurer’s I-Cash Program? Did you know that you or a family member may have unclaimed cash? Unclaimed cash is money collected by the state from banks, insurance companies, utilities and other institutions when they haven’t been able to return it to its owner. The Illinois Treasurer currently has $2.5 billion to return!
Sound too good to be true? Here are the facts:
- 1 in 4 Illinois adults discovers property to claim when they search I-Cash.
- The average paid claim is $2,900.
- Most individuals receive a check within about four weeks of submitting their signed claim form and authentication of ownership.
Ready to see if you have unclaimed cash? Visit IllinoisTreasurer.gov/ICASH, enter your name and city or zip code to find out! I entered my information with my married and maiden name and both cities where I have lived. I found nothing. Bummer! But, I also entered my husband’s info and found over $100 from Progressive Insurance! We completed the first step of the process and just need to get proof of residence to finish the claim. Who can get excited about money you didn’t know you were supposed to have? We can! I’m thinking this is a great excuse for a date night! That amount would surely cover a nice dinner and a babysitter.
Here’s how you can get started:
- Visit IllinoisTreasurer.gov/ICASH and click on the I-Cash link. Then, enter your name and city in the search fields to find out if you
have property to claim. - Identify your properties and provide your contact information online.
- Within minutes, I-Cash will email you a claim form to sign and mail along with proof of ownership to claim your assets.
- Mail back your signed claim form and ownership proof, and you will receive your cash within weeks.
- Check back every six months because hundreds of thousands of new properties are added to the Illinois Treasurer’s I-Cash program throughout each year.
