National Infertility Awareness Week – A Snapshot of My Story and Resources to Support Others
I haven’t mentioned this on the website previously, but I think it’s time! Today is the final day of National Infertility Awareness Week. This is a topic that is very important to me. About a year after I was married, my husband and I started trying to have a baby. I never had any reason to believe that we would have difficulties conceiving….no one else in my family had any trouble (that I know of). After 3.5 years of being off birth control and no pregnancy, we knew it was time to talk to my doctor. We did 5 months on Clomid before being referred to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. Our diagnosis…unexplained infertility. This was definitely one of those moments where you really wanted the doctor to come back with a reason “why.” But, alas, we didn’t have a reason. Since there was no obvious reason, we moved on and did three IUIs followed by two IVF cycles before we became pregnant with our now 5-year old. So, all of that to say… If you are struggling with infertility, “You are not alone.”
This year RESOLVE is urging the infertility community to spread the message “You are not alone.” Infertility impacts 1 in 8 couples of reproductive age and can be a very isolating disease to face. Just hearing “You are not alone” can help in so many ways. Consider showcasing this theme and important message in your National Infertility Awareness Week efforts.
To many, this is a very private matter, but I urge you to reach out if you are dealing with infertility. Blogging was a huge lifesaver for me while going through tests, procedures and months of trying. It was a huge outlet and a great way to meet other people going through the same thing. I have met a lot of great people through my blogging that I know I will be connected to forever.
