Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Kids
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching…3 days away to be exact. It is often a day we celebrate with our loved ones by giving them cards, candy, and/or chocolates and showing them how much they mean to us. When my husband and I were first married and didn’t have kiddos at home, we always did the traditional dinner. That was easy to do when our schedules were more open, but since we’ve had kids, and especially when it falls during the week, that dinner has gone by the wayside. Now, you will usually find us celebrating with our kids and heading off to one of the many after school activities. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t take a little time to show the people in your life how much they mean to you.
Here are a few ideas on ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with kids.
- Place hearts on their bedroom door with words of encouragement and how much they are loved by you. Although you probably tell your kids how much you love them on a regular basis, they can look forward to seeing what the new heart says every day. And, you can leave the hearts up for a while after Valentine’s Day so they can look at them and be reminded about how much they are loved. Not sure you can remember to do it every day? Just do it for the week or two leading up to Valentine’s Day or every other day. I like to cut all of my hearts before the month starts and get them written out so they are ready to go. This helps to avoid forgetting to do it each night and struggling to come up with a new message when all you really want to do is go to bed. 🙂 You can also have other members of the family participate! This would be great practice for siblings.
- Read Valentine’s Day themed books. As my boys have gotten a little older, it’s harder to find holiday themed books, but I still love them! Our favorites are the Berenstain Bears books.
- Watch Valentine’s Day themed movies such as Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!: Hurray! It’s Valentine’s Day! or Be My Valentine: Charlie Brown or A Charlie Brown Valentine.
- Have a day eating heart shaped food! Use heart shaped cookie cutters to turn your pancakes and eggs into hearts, cut sandwiches into heart shape, enjoy heart shaped pizza (our family’s favorite!), and finish off the night with heart-shaped cookies or chocolate covered strawberries!
After over-indulging in the sweet treats (I have a major sweet tooth!), one of the things I never forget to make sure everyone in our family does before bed is brush our teeth!
We love Crest toothpaste in our house, and the Crest 3D White Radiant Mint Toothpaste is one of my favorites! Not only does it make my teeth feel great, but it also:
- Whitens teeth by removing up to 80% of surface stains
- Protects teeth against future stains
- Strengthens teeth and safe on tooth enamel
- Fluoride toothpaste protects against cavities
- Radiant Mint flavor
I love using a toothpaste that will not only whiten my teeth but also protect them from all the chocolates and treats for a bright and healthy smile this Valentine’s Day.
